D.I.Y. Mini Projects

Clean Dishes!

I don't know about you but I am sick and tired of the kids putting dirty dishes in with the clean dishes. I don't  know if they are just too lazy to put the clean ones away (I greatly suspect this) or if they really can't tell that they are clean. This happens once a week and we waste so much detergent rewashing clean dishes. UGH! Today I had an epiphany. Earlier this year I bought some of those magnetic vent covers to keep the heat from blowing on my indoor plants in the kitchen. I had one left over and I cut it into strips so that my 4 1/2 year old could use the strips to display his art work on the fridge. So after opening the dishwasher yet again to find the clean and dirty dishes co-mingling, I turned on the dishwasher yet again. Then it hit me. I made this:
So simple yet somehow the concept has evaded me until now. No more co-mingling dishes in this house. :)

Lamp Shade Recover Using Double Sided Tape and Ribbon!

Before

After
This is the before and after of a lamp I recovered using 1/8 inch black satin ribbon, 1 1/2 inch white satin ribbon, double sided tape and super glue. I positioned the tape 3 inches apart wit two pieces side by side at the start and finish point. I used put two pieces of white ribbon around the middle because the double sided tape was still visible and secured the second piece with a drop of super glue. The whole project took about an hour. Larger ribbon could be used but I used what I had on hand so the final cost was…FREE!

Button Valentine's

Zachy made this for his daddy. I drew the heart and spread the glue and let him lay the buttons down as he pleased. I think he did a fantastic job for a 4 1/2 year old (boy). I plan on putting this on a canvas or maybe inside a shadow box.

Update:
We went with a shadow box. It's actually a T-shirt display box I picked up from Michaels for 9.99. I think it turned out pretty awesome. His daddy is gonna LOVE it!
